Privacy
The Lamp is built to need almost nothing about you. Here is what it does and doesn’t do, in plain English.
What the lamp uses
- A small cookie with a random ID, so the page can tell that you already tended (without knowing who you are).
- A salted hash of your IP address combined with the day, used only for rate-limiting. It is discarded after 24 hours.
- Aggregate visit numbers (counts only, no per-person records) so I can tell whether the lamp is being used.
About the words you leave
If you leave a few words for the next stranger after tending, those words are stored on the lamp's server, in a rolling list of the most recent offerings. They are not linked to you: there is no name, no IP, no cookie tied to the text. Other strangers will see them, one at a time, in random order. The list is capped, so older offerings drift away as new ones arrive.
Words are length-limited (a few words at most), screened for obvious abuse, and may be removed if they slip through.
What the lamp does not use
- Your email. There is no email field anywhere on the site.
- Your name, location, browser fingerprint, or any third-party tracker.
- Ad networks. There are no ads.
- Analytics that follow you around the web.
Deletion
There is nothing to delete because there is no account. Clearing your cookies clears the local cooldown.
